National Service Scheme (NSS) at Institute of Technology & Management, Dehradun


What is NSS?

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a public service program conducted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. The NSS aims to develop the personality and character of students through voluntary community service. It was launched in 1969, during the birth centenary year of Mahatma Gandhi, to instill the idea of social welfare in students and to provide service to society without bias.

About NSS

The NSS Unit at the Institute of Technology & Management, Dehradun, is a vibrant and active body dedicated to promoting social consciousness among students. Our NSS Wing engages students in various community service activities, fostering a spirit of volunteerism and social responsibility. Over the years, we have organized numerous camps and activities, including a one-week camp and several day long camps in the nearby communities, focusing on a wide range of issues such as health, education, sanitation, and environmental sustainability.

Objectives of NSS

The primary objectives of NSS are:

  • Personality Development: To develop the personality of students through community service
  • Social Awareness: To increase awareness about social issues and encourage students to contribute to the solution of social problems.
  • Community Development: To promote a sense of social and civic responsibility among students.
  • Skill Development: To acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes.
  • National Integration: To understand the community in which they work and relate to the larger society and nation.

By participating in NSS activities, students learn to work together, plan and execute projects, and develop empathy and understanding for the less privileged sections of society.

Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) of NSS

The SOP for NSS activities at the Institute of Technology & Management, Dehradun, ensures structured and effective implementation of various programs. The key elements of our SOP include:

  • Enrollment: Students can enroll in NSS at the beginning of each academic year. Enrollment is open to all students who have a willingness to contribute to social causes subject to approved seats by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports on FCFS basis.
  • Planning: The NSS committee, along with student volunteers, plans activities and camps well in advance. This involves identifying community needs, setting objectives, and allocating resources.
  • Implementation: Activities : Activities are carried out as per the planned schedule. This includes regular activities, special day observances, and camps. Students are encouraged to take active roles in the execution of projects.
  • Supervision: Faculty members and NSS program officers supervise all activities to ensure they are conducted smoothly and objectives are met.
  • Reporting: Regular reports are submitted to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

Our NSS unit strives to create a nurturing environment where students can grow personally and professionally while making meaningful contributions to society.
